Virginia Beach authorities are investigating a series of arsons that damaged five homes in a subdivision.
Fire department Battalion Chief Michael Barakey says seven fires were reported throughout the Brigadoon subdivision between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
Six fires were set in rubbish, trash cans or recycling bins. One fire was set by lighting a flag hanging outside a garage. Barakey says one home sustained about $65,000 in damage and is uninhabitable.
Capt. Terrence Tassone says one resident suffered first-degree and second-degree burns while trying to pull a burning bin away from his home.
Tassone says investigators don’t know whether the fires were a prank.
