Widower of Helicopter Crash Victim Files $7M Lawsuit

August 5, 2010

The widower of a volunteer paramedic who died in a 2008 Maryland State Police helicopter crash has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the federal government.

It’s the second wrongful-death lawsuit filed as a result of the crash. Relatives of flight paramedic Mickey Lippy filed a $15 million lawsuit in March.

The attorney for Kenneth Mallard says he deserves compensation because of the “negligence” of Federal Aviation Administration air traffic controllers. Mallard’s wife, Tanya, died in the crash. He’s seeking $7 million.

Four people died in the 2008 crash in Prince George’s County. The only survivor, Jordan Wells, filed a $50 million personal-injury claim that was denied by the FAA.
