Washington D.C. has a new insurance commissioner: Gennet Purcell, a former lawyer, who had been serving as deputy commissioner since December.
Purcell joined the department after serving as a partner at a private law firm, where her specialties included insurance claims, estate planning and surety bond financing. She has also worked as an associate at ShawPittman, and is a member of the state bars in both Maryland and Virginia.
Purcell serves as a member on the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) – Investor Education Section Committee, and is a pending nominee to serve on the District of Columbia Financial Literacy Council.
She replaces Commissioner Thomas Hampton.
