July 1, 2009

Police agencies across Delaware are stepping up drunken driving enforcement.

The Office of Highway Safety launches its annual Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign with six DUI checkpoints over the Fourth of July weekend. Over the next six months officials plan 92 more checkpoints involving 22 police agencies.

Officials say checkpoints will be set up Friday in Newport, Kent County, Millsboro and Milford and in Harrington and Smyrna on Saturday.

Officers arrested 559 people for DUI during the 2008 campaign.
