Let me see, where to begin: show me your data.

“Many, many, many” is a feeling not a fact. If you can say something like 60% of the drivers are drunk, that’s a researchable fact, other than that, it’s just opinion based on your narrow view of your immediate life (the world is a bigger place than you, the people you know and the town/city in which you live).

I’d like to know where the 99% figure was derived; again, was it opinion or a searchable, provable fact?

So far, I find no “truth” in your statements so I ain’t hurt.

And, no I haven’t considered that you are a really good driver ’cause really good drivers don’t take unnecessary chances; they do all they can to be in full control and able to concentrate.

I’m not going to do your work for you. Research and look at the physical and mental affects of alcohol. Drink enough and your mental and reactional abilities are no better than a baby’s.

Back in the day I drove many a time when I shouldn’t have. I know I had at least one instance where I had to close 1 eye just to see double not quadruple. As I got older I realized how stupid that was. There is no way I would get behind the wheel even after a few drinks. I have been driving since I was 15. I am 29 now. I have never had an accident. I feel I was just lucky and the roads were clear. I know for a fact if there was a situation where I needed to think quickly I would not have reacted as quickly as I needed to. The very last thing I want to do is wake up in a hospital or jail and find out I killed someone. I would not be able to handle that kind of guilt. Why would you do something that is easily preventable? I enjoy being alive and I don’t want to take or ruin anyone elses life because I wanted to party. Quit being so selfish.

I have a feeling Adam is playing devil’s advocate for the sake of interesting conversation. However, he is not doing a very good job of it. But in the off chance he is being truthful, let’s hope Adam wraps his car around a tree this weekend, removing his stupidty (and genes) from the roads. My condolences to his family.

I just spent a 1/2 hour reading all the posts. Very interesting comments – makes one think regardless of what your opinion is. That is part of what this venue is all about – freedom of speech. Of all the persons who have taken the time to express – one individual stands out – Adam – obviously. To even think for a moment drinking that much in such a short period of time is OK most lilely proves you are a 16 yr old in a 25 yr old body. Hopefully you will grow up someday. Enjoy driving while you can – it is only a matter of time.

Adam, I’m fairly certain what your describing occurs on a more regular basis than we know.

The problem is that the MADD mother’s present MADD run NHTSA statistics based on death counts and not in terms of millions of miles of drink driving trips performed successfully without incident on a daily basis.

All MADD is doing is taking a ONE set of statistics that are produced to support their agenda of criminalizing a behavior as VENGEANCE for the death of their loved one.

Death is tragic, but the MO that MADD has been able to successfully employ is to take a tear jerking stories, throw a bunch of inaccurate and inflated statistics around an then watch legislators trip over themselves pandering for vote for “appearing” tough on crime.

Reactions here show the media propaganda about DUI this and DUI that has successfully made its way into mainstream thought.

Watch football on Sunday. How much alcohol is consumed at those games? How many drink driving miles are logged on the way home from every Sunday Football game.

Posters here seem to think it’s a matter fo time before you are in an accident. Good attentive drivers don’t get in accidents. Drinking drivers are actually more careful when driving than the majority of brain dead distracted SOBER drivers.

You may be trolling Adam. Fact is, people are burying their head in the sand if they think MADD’s approach is the catch all end all to the issue.

MADD is in it for their cut of the 18 billion dollar a year economy they created.

Come on LifeEx, name calling (idiot) only shows your ignorance on a topic and proves that Adam has a point that you can not counter.

If you can’t add value to a board, it’s best to leave the typing to those that do.

Wing and a prayer? As a paramedic Bill, does your life experience tell you that most accidents involve sober or drunk?

Based on MADD statistics, the sobers always kill more than the drinkers.

Also, In 2007, MADD claimed 13k innocent victims of drunk drivers died on our roadways.

That’s funny, because using the same FARS database MADD uses, over 10,200 of those accidents are SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENTS where a drinking driver or passenger that decided to ride with a drinking driver are killed.

These ARE NOT innocent victims of a drunk driver. Is arresting 1.8m / annually to save 2,000 people a money grab? Again, in all cases where the is a purported innocent victim the driver with the BAC is always deemed responsible for the accident. How many of those 2,000 that died were the sober and at fault? I suspect a few.

Chew on that a while and get back to me.

    Hey Dis.

You don’t have to be ignorant to call someone an idiot. In fact, it helps when you are well-read to be able to back it up when you do call someone an idiot.

I know drunk driving happens everyday – to think otherwise would make me the idiot.

But to say it’s not dangerous because it does happen and not everone of the drunks is not in an accident is a non sequitur and makes no point (or sense) at all.

And, as you said, when you can value or prove that drunk driving is safe, please respond.

….And, as you said, when you can value or prove that drunk driving is safe, please respond….can’t be done with current statistical models.

Driving in itself is a dangerous behavior. You can not legislate that one group of drivers is the problem and penalize them disproportionately to their crime.

Sober speeders kill more annually. Should we start jailing people with 3 speeding tickets on their record?

Would guys like you be up in arms then?

I’m not saying a punishment should not be handed out. But punishing a person for having a substance in their blood and not being in an accident AS IF they killed someone in an accident is asinine. What’s good for one group is good for all groups.

But I forgot we don’t have lobbying group that wants to make another new class of non violent criminals in America. Yet anyway.
