Every time any article is posted dealing with drunk driving in any way, the MADD haters post the same drivel. All the postings against better enforcement are just excuses for people who have a problem that kills other people. If cell phones are such a problem then lets pass laws limiting their use while driving. Oh, some states and cities already have. Let’s start protesting those laws now. By the way, find your own name, your anti whatever I say postings are idiotic and I don’t want anyone to connect them to me in any way.

Where do some of you come off? Drunk driving is what it is, driving drunk…talking on a cell phone while driving is what it is, inattention. Driving a car is a PRIVILEDGE and not a right. If you can’t follow the laws, then perhaps you deserve what you get, that is if you get it at all. No, I have NEVER driven drunk or while even having a 1/2 glass of wine. I lost 2 best friends from a drunk driver…and the drunk driver? Not a scratch, in both cases. Where is the justice? (Akimbo, I believe that the founder of MADD had lost a loved one to a drunk driver)….Oh, when you see someone splattered on the highway with their guts hanging out….shall it be time to move on and get a life? I certainly hope not…I can’t believe that this is man’s humanity towards man…what a shame….

I am tired of all of these acronym warriors who have no respect for our constitution. They all want to implement new laws to regulate peoples behavior, yet they have no respect for the rule of law (the U.S. Constitution). Why should we care about any new law that they manage to force upon us, if MADD and the other acronym warriors don’t respect the current rule of law.
The last time I checked the American People have the right to travel and we therefore, have the right to utilize the most efficient means at our disposal. If we are able and are not a threat to the property or health of others then we have the right to drive a motorized vehicle after we demonstrate proficiency. The government does not yet have the right to arbitrarily withhold this right from any citizen. I know there are many among us who would like to give this arbitrary power to the government, but there are still a few of us willing to fight for our freedom. Freedom gives us the right to make stupid decisions as long as we understand that there will be consequences.
No one was guaranteed a risk free life at birth. As long as you live on this planet there will be risk and no amount of human legislation will change that.
Maybe the folks at MADD should “stop being MADD,” and try going to church.

Ill be honest, Im 25 and after a long week I like a drink with my friends. Did I say a drink? We like to party! I mean literally about 15 drinks most every Friday night.

That said, I still drive about half an hour home after all that drinking and have been doing this since ive been 21 and ive never had an incident.

Sometimes I have to close one eye because my vision is so blurry.

Yet, I make it home EVERY TIME WITHOUT INCIDENT.

And so do ALL MY FRIENDS!!!

So stop and think. Is it really that big of a deal? If I can make it home safely when im totally wasted, and have done so successfully probably over 500 times, what does that say??

Am I that good? That lucky? Are all my friends that lucky?

Or maybe its really not that big of a deal. Many of you non drinkers are just blowing things out of proportion.

Often times when a drunk person is involved in an accident, its probably just a coincidence.

I shouldnt have to suffer because of the mistakes of others!!!

…..Just yesterday the local news carried a story of a 46 year old multiple offender who rammed a car being driven by a 20 year old pre-med college student and only child, killing him……..

And here in lies the problem. People like Dread getting their facts from the media. Let’s see Dread, if the headline read repeat offender speeder killed someone, should that repeat offender speeder do jail time?

According to MADD, SOBER speeders and SOBER inattentive drivers are doing the MAJORITY of killing on our roadways. Well over 65%. Are those deaths any less tragic?

When we start locking up repeat offender speeders, maybe I will think MADD may be on to something. Until then, they are just a neo-prohibitionist, anti alcohol lobbying organization spewing propaganda.

Propaganda you love to eat up.

Oh Bill, we always have the need for an EMOTIONAL MADD Member to come and remind us of why it is ok to wipe our asses with the Constitution.

You are a typical MADDer. Re-read your response. Your saying that every consumer of alcohol now needs to be punished AS IF they killed someone even though they did not. All because one guy, who was likely well over 2x the legal limit, killed your family.

It sounds like MADD has been keeping you angry for a very long time Bill.

I would recommend a different kind of support group. One that does not USE you as a prop for bad legislation that does nothing to save lives but everything to line MADD pockets and criminalize otherwise responsible American citizens.

My condolences for your losses. But your emotion is clouding your judgment

What are you talking about? Most of us are using our unimpaired judgement to determine that people who drive with impaired capacity are a danger to other people on the road. I don’t know any MADD people and don’t care about whatever terrible lies you think they tell. Your hate for MADD is absolutely unbelievable. The other poster was right on, there is no right to drive, certainly not a right to drive while impaired. I have nothing against drinking, just against the damage these people cause because they choose to drink.

The problem with our justice system is that it’s “after the fact”. Very little attention and resources are focused on PREVENTION. Fact is, many people are stupid, lazy, irresponsible, negligent or just don’t get it. The only way to send them a message is to make the consequence of their actions cost them a SIGNIFCANT PENALTY. Dread makes a valid point. If there is no deterrant, behaviors won’t change. There should be no acceptable level of loss of human life because of drunk drivers, cell phone users, texters, or anything else. An automobile is a dangerous piece of equipment and demands 100% attention. Driving IS NOT A PART TIME JOB. Society has allowed convenience to replace responsibility and focus. How bad do things have to get for society to say, “enough”?

Hopefully one day in the near future cars will just drive themselves. That way we can all go out get annihilated and have a good time. Then we wouldn’t have to worry about running someone over while drunk. The biggest worry we will have is getting a funky STD from that girl you thought was so hot until you woke up the next day.
