The trial of a retired Pennsylvania appellate judge accused of insurance fraud has been delayed because of his mother’s death.
Former Superior Court Judge Michael Joyce’s mother, Evelyn Cox, died Friday after having a heart attack on Thursday.
Joyce’s trial was to resume Monday in federal court in Pittsburgh, but court officials say it’s unclear if it will resume Tuesday or later in the week.
Joyce is accused of defrauding two insurance companies out of $440,000 by allegedly exaggerating loss claims in a 2001 car accident.
The defense says the injuries were legitimate.
