State police in three New England states are teaming up with federal authorities to ensure a safe Labor Day weekend on the region’s highways.
State police from Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut along with the federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will step up enforcement of commercial vehicle inspections over the weekend in an effort to reduce accidents.
The program includes educating truck drivers about the importance of safe, sober driving.
Rhode Island Governor Donald Carcieri and Attorney General Patrick Lynch will attend a news conference at Blackstone River State Park in Lincoln on Tuesday to officially unveil the program.
