State insurance officials are instructing motorists on how to deal with minor car accidents after Las Vegas police announced they’ll soon stop responding to non-injury fender-benders.
The Nevada Division of Insurance recommends drivers double check that they have their proof of insurance in their car. The division also recommends downloading the free smartphone app WreckCheck, which gives drivers a step-by-step checklist of things to do after an accident.
Las Vegas police announced Monday that their new policy will begin March 3. They say they’re stretched thin, and a proposal for a sales tax hike to hire more officers failed in recent weeks.
Police say officers will still respond to injury crashes, hit-and-run incidents and accidents where at least one driver refuses to exchange insurance information.
