Firefighters say a boat fire on Washington’s Puget Sound that injured two people spread from one fiberglass hull to another until 12 vessels were destroyed or damaged.
South King Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief Gordie Olson says a 28-year-old woman and a man in his 30s were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Sunday night with second- and third-degree burns to their upper bodies. The hospital said the woman was in serious condition Monday in intensive care. No condition information was available for the man.
They were working in the bottom of a boat at the city of Des Moines marina, about 15 miles south of Seattle, when a flash fire erupted.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and there’s no dollar estimate yet of the damage.
