A wildfire near Royal Gorge Bridge Park has destroyed 20 structures but is now 20 percent contained.
The Royal Gorge Fire has forced 250 people from their homes near Canon City since it broke out Tuesday. Fire officials revised the size of the fire to more than four square miles Wednesday, down from an earlier estimate of about six square miles, and said 20 structures have been lost.
It appears the soaring Royal Gorge suspension bridge spanning a canyon across the Arkansas River is intact, though its structural integrity will need to be evaluated. The bridge is suspended by steel supports but has wood planking.
