Police in the Phoenix suburbs of Chandler and Mesa say they’re trying to track down an arsonist who torched five cars and targeted several others.
Chandler police spokesman Sgt. Joe Favazzo says fires destroyed four cars in rapid succession starting just before 2 a.m. Thursday. Several other cars were found with signs that an arsonist tried to ignite them as well.
Mesa police Sgt. Tony Landato says one vehicle fire was reported in his city several miles north of Chandler at about the same time. Investigators suspect it’s related to the Chandler arsons.
Favazzo says no one was injured. Police are trying to figure out how the fires were started and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person responsible.
