Feds Probe Truckload of Fake Goods Seized in Wyoming

January 20, 2012

Federal custom agents are investigating after Wyoming troopers discovered $5.7 million worth of counterfeit handbags, jackets and shoes during a truck inspection.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol said the merchandise was seized Monday evening during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 just west of Cheyenne. The tractor-trailer contained 18 pallets of fake Louis Vuitton handbags and leather jackets, as well as fake Nike tennis shoes.

The truck was headed from Los Angeles to New York City, and the fake apparel is believed to have come from a manufacturer in China. The goods have been turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials who will try to determine exactly where the merchandise was from and where it was headed.

The driver and the tractor-trailer have been released.
