Salt Lake City, Utah, authorities say a pickup truck that caught fire in a McDonald’s drive-through lane ignited a blaze that caused an estimated $1 million in damage to the restaurant.
The Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News report smoke began to pour from the truck’s engine after the driver pulled up to the drive-through window early Saturday morning.
Fire Battalion Chief Gary McCarty says the fire quickly spread to the restaurant and caused extensive damage to it.
McDonald’s employees and occupants of the truck were able to exit immediately, and no injuries were reported.
Investigators believe the fire started in the ventilation system of the truck’s heater.
McCarty says the restaurant in the Sugar House neighborhood would be closed indefinitely while a “significant remodel of the building” is done.
