Police in the Portland suburb of Beaverton have arrested a Vancouver, Wash., couple in a series of “smash and grab” thefts that ripped GPS units and other valuables from vehicles in hotel and motel parking lots.
Officer Pam Yazzolino says police alerted early Saturday by Homewood Suites employees to a theft in progress stopped a car and arrested 22-year-old Sergiy Selivanov and his 25-year-old wife, Marina Chertovskaya.
Yazzolino says police found numerous GPS units in the car and detectives have been working to identify victims and return the stolen items.
Selivanov was arrested for investigation of offenses including theft and criminal mischief. His wife was arrested for investigation of conspiracy to commit theft. She was cited and released.
Police say they think they’ve cleared 17 cases with the arrests.
