A Los Angeles police detective has pleaded no contest to workers’ compensation insurance fraud for running two private businesses while out on a disability claim for job-related stress.
Police said Wednesday that John Vach Jr. has agreed to pay back $105,000 for all salary and medical benefits that he received during his leave.
Vach, a 15-year department veteran who was last assigned to the major crimes division, also agreed to resign as part of the plea deal.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 7.
