Napa, Calif. Insurer Agrees to Settlement in Harassment Suit

A Napa insurance company has agreed to pay $230,000 to two female employees who claimed they were fired after complaining about sexual harassment.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Doctors Co. agreed to the settlement with Kimber Thompson, a former administrative assistant, and her co-worker, Carrie Giltner, on Monday.

Doctors is the nation’s largest insurer of physicians.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued the company last year on the women’s behalf. Thompson and Giltner claimed they were fired in 2008 after Thompson complained she was being sexually harassed by a supervisor and Giltner acted as her witness.

The company denied their harassment claims and said they were fired for unrelated reasons.

Under the settlement, Thompson will receive $150,000. Giltner will receive $80,000.
