Progress is reported on the Horseshoe Two wildfire in southeastern Arizona. The fire is 60 percent contained. However the Forest Service says the burned acreage number has risen to more than 184,000, or 287 square miles.
Fire crews are expected to focus on constructing and improving containment lines and protecting structures in preparation for controlled burns.
Crews completed some controlled burns around structures in Chiricahua National Monument Tuesday and more of the same is expected Wednesday.
Residents of Whitetail began returning home Wednesday. Officials say the residents can expect heavy smoke at times drifting over from the wildfire.
