Idaho Man Sentenced in Unemployment Insurance Fraud Case

An Idaho man who authorities say set up a scheme to collect unemployment checks while in the Twin Falls County Jail has been sentenced to two years probation as part of a plea deal.

Fifty-one-year-old Robert Latham Jr. was sentenced in 5th District Court for unemployment insurance fraud, and could end up serving up to five years in prison if he violates his probation.

The Times-News reports that Latham also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery after first being charged with domestic violence involving his former wife.

He received a suspended sentence of 180 days in jail on the misdemeanor battery charge and must complete a 52-week domestic violence course.

Latham also paid $1,440 in restitution to the Idaho Department of Labor on for the unemployment checks.
