The Idaho Department of Insurance is warning the public of a new form of insurance fraud. According to the department, following the recent passage of the health care reform bill, a new scam has emergend in which consumers are being approached by individuals posing as insurance agents representing the federal government and trying to sell insurance policies.
Department Director Bill Deal said, “Idahoans should continue to use caution and common sense when making decisions about health insurance. As always, we encourage consumers to be sure an agent is licensed to do business in Idaho.”
The federal government will not contact consumers directly about health insurance. Idahoans should be especially cautious when the contact is unsolicited. Anyone who is approached by a solicitor who refuses to provide contact information or makes threats of any kind is being advised to alert the Department at www.doi.idaho.gov.
