Oregon Reminds Insurance Producers of Fingerprint Rules

December 29, 2008

The Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services, Insurance Division, is reminding insurance producers of new fingerprint rules that were adopted on Dec. 9, 2008.

According to DCBS, the rules OAR 836-072-0001 to 836-072-0045 were designed to protect the insurance-buying public from producers with certain criminal convictions who pose a risk. Fingerprints must be submitted by applicants who seek an initial producer license after Sept. 1, 2009. Producers that are renewing their license only need to submit fingerprints if it is requested.

DCBS said it could request fingerprints if it is investigating potential violations of the Insurance Code or other Oregon laws or is taking enforcement action against a producer or the producer’s identity is in question. The division might ask for fingerprints for non-residents seeking or renewing a license if it questions the producer’s identity or suspects he or she has been convicted of a crime but hasn’t reported the conviction.

For information on the new rules, call producer Licensing Manager Jim Thompson at 503-947-7247 visit http://insurance.oregon.gov/FAQs/producer_fingerprint-qa.html.
