An 8,000 acre wildfire was burning on Bureau of Land Management land where there are 30 gas wells.
The Mayberry fire, about 32 miles northwest of Craig in northwestern Colorado, is one of at least 24 new fires reported since Sunday.
The BLM says erratic winds are creating dangerous conditions in sagebrush and tall grass. Crews working with the gas wells in the area have voluntarily left the scene. Firefighters know of no damage to the wells.
Also, the 4,600-acre Prong fire, burning in sagebrush and grass on BLM and private land, is 80 percent contained.
