Nevada Allows Nonresident Adjusters to Assist with Storm Claims

January 9, 2008

Due to the damages caused by the rain, heavy snow and high winds in the projected series of storms in northern Nevada last weekend, Commissioner of Insurance Alice A. Molasky-Arman has given temporary approval for nonresident insurance claims adjusters to adjust claims in the northern Nevada area for damage caused by the storms. This will assist insurance companies in expediting claims and assessing the amount of damages, she said.

Under ordinary circumstances, only resident adjusters are permitted to handle claims. Nevada law, however, allows the commissioner to make exceptions during catastrophes. In addition, her agency has contacted major insurers in the area to make certain enough adjusting teams are available, which will increase the speed of benefit payments for property damage.

“We are available to assist consumers with questions about their insurance policies, or who need assistance dealing with their insurance company,” Molasky-Arman said.

Consumers who have experienced property damage are being directed to fist contact their agent or their insurance company claims office to get instructions on how to file a claim. Consumers with questions or complaints may also call the consumer services officers at the Nevada Division of Insurance at 775-687-4270 or toll free in Nevada at 800-992-0900, ext. 4270 in Carson City.
