Calif. Commissioner Allows Insurers to Expand Use of Adjusters for Wildfire Claims

November 6, 2003

Calif. Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi released the following statement declaring an Emergency Situation in Southern California due to the wildfires:

“Due to the unprecedented destruction caused by Southern California wildfires, I have today declared an Emergency Situation in the following areas, per Section 14022.5(a) of the California Insurance Code: San Diego, San Bernardino, Ventura, and Los Angeles counties.

“This action will allow insurers to use certain additional adjusters as resources to help cope with the enormous demand that will come from affected homeowners. As these additional adjusters enter the market, I will continue to vigorously enforce the law as it applies to the use of these and all other adjusters. Be assured that the Department of Insurance will also continue its efforts to provide help and support to all who have been impacted by the fires,” Garamendi said.
