A North Carolina woman was arrested and charged with one felony count each of insurance fraud, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and uttering of a forged document, according to Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators allege that between March 31 and Oct. 27, 2014, Carla Yvette McWilliams submitted fraudulent documentation to State Farm Insurance Company to recover $3,000 for medical services she and her son received as a result of a car accident on April 31, 2014. Investigators allege that McWilliams did not pay for medical services and her son was neither in her vehicle at the time of the accident nor did he receive medical treatment as she had claimed.
McWilliams was arrested on Oct. 27 and placed under at $5,000 bond.
