Teams from West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio are in Morgantown competing in an event to test their mine rescue and safety skills.
Personnel from the West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training are judging and assisting with the Post 5 National Mine Rescue Association/West Virginia State Contest.
Twenty teams are competing in events including mine rescue, first aid, breathing apparatuses and pre-shift competitions.
Officials say the biennial event helps rescuers practice their skills in a simulated mine rescue situation.
The event began Tuesday and runs through today.
