A North Carolina couple were arrested for suspected insurance fraud, according to an announcement by Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators allege that on March 14, 2014, Cesar Rene Ocampo and Darlyn Zavala-Cruz Ocampo, provided false and misleading information to Sentry Insurance in attempt to obtain funds for vehicle damage for which they had already been paid. Investigators allege that Travelers Insurance Company legitimately paid the Ocampos $1,516.39 for a claim they filed on March 12, 2014, for damage to the Ocampo’s vehicle after an accident involving its insured.
Darlyn Zavala-Cruz Ocampo was arrested on June 17 and charged with one count each of insurance fraud, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and felony conspiracy. Cesar Rene Ocampo was also arrested on June 17 and charged with one count each of insurance fraud and felony conspiracy. Each was placed under a $3,000 bond.
