OSHA Probes Health Complaints at Alabama Car Parts Plant

Federal regulators are investigating complaints about safety problems at an automotive parts plant in Selma.

The Selma Times-Journal reports the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is reviewing operations at seat manufacturer Renosol.

A vice president with Renosol parent company Lear Corp. says it’s not unusual for the agency to visit manufacturing sites.

The investigation is based partly on a list of employee complaints. A public relations firm representing the workers says about three-quarters of the plant’s 90 workers have respiratory problems associated with a chemical used in the manufacturing process.

Employees say exposure to the chemical causes asthma-like symptoms.
