Two lawsuits have been filed against the cities of Vidalia, La., and Natchez, Miss., along with various other agencies in connection with a fatal Mississippi River bridge traffic accident.
The Natchez Democrat reports that the accident happened Dec. 15 of last year when the westbound lanes on the bridge were closed for a 5K race. Two-way traffic was diverted to the east bound lanes. Officers from Vidalia and Natchez were directing traffic.
A Mercury SUV heading west was hit by a Mazda car heading east that authorities said veered into the westbound lane. The Mazda driver was fatally injured. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of her husband and estate. The lawsuit claims traffic supervision was insufficient on the bridge.
