They may have just wanted to make some waves and catch some rays.
But converting a pontoon dock into a pontoon boat last month turned into hot water for two north Florida men who now face grand theft charges.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says 30-year-old Robert Lee Alvord and 30-year-old Kenneth Rehberg are accused of stealing parts to install a Jeep Cherokee chassis on a section of a pontoon dock.
After alert went out to wildlife officers, investigator Terrynce Bing realized he’d conducted a safety inspection on the craft a few days earlier. He had given a citation to the owner. Officials say the men admitted to taking the dock after being questioned by wildlife officers.
The dock, worth $400-$600, was returned to its owner.
