West Virginia Woman Sentenced in Duplex Arson Conspiracy

A Logan County, W.Va., woman has been sentenced to three years and one month in federal prison for her role burning down a rental duplex to collect insurance money.

U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin announced the sentencing Monday.

Prosecutors say 46-year-old Kimberly Dawn Kinder, of Chapmanville, pleaded guilty last year to conspiring with her now-deceased husband and 58-year-old Michael L. White, also from Chapmanville, to set fire to a rental unit he owned in Boone County.

Last month a federal jury convicted White of conspiracy to commit arson, arson and accessory after the fact. White faces a maximum of 27 1/2 years in prison when he is sentenced in August.

Evidence showed that after the October 2009 fire, White collected more than $80,000 in insurance claims and paid the Kinder about $2,000.
