State Farm: Deer Crashes Still Likeliest in West Virginia

State Farm says West Virginia continues to be the most likely state where deer and vehicles collide.

West Virginia topped State Farm’s annual list of states’ likelihood of deer crashes for the fifth consecutive year. The Mountain State’s top ranking came despite a 22 percent drop in deer-vehicle collisions between July 1, 2010, and June 30, 2011.

State Farm said Monday that a motorist in West Virginia has a 1 in 53 chance of hitting a deer over the next 12 months. Last year, the odds were 1 in 42.

In Hawaii, the odds are 1 in 6,267, making that state the least likely for deer-vehicle collisions.

The insurer says the number of deer-vehicle collisions nationally fell 7 percent.
