Two Accused of Faking $1 Million in Aflac Claims in Georgia

July 27, 2010

Two people have been indicted on charges they stole nearly $1 million from insurer Aflac Inc. by filing false insurance claims from 2007 to 2009.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that federal prosecutors are accusing former Aflac employee Danielle Mahone and Travis Washington of using fake insurance information to file fraudulent claims with the company. Prosecutors said that after Mahone left Aflac’s Columbus office in 2006, she helped Washington file the fake documents for a cut of the money.

Authorities said others were involved in the crimes but they were not named in the indictment.

Mahone faces 23 counts of health care fraud, while Washington faces 15 counts.
