A South Florida sheriff’s deputy allegedly filed a fake accident report to recoup the costs of two concert tickets.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office suspended 43-year-old Shawn Barber without pay in December after he was accused of stealing a tractor from a neighbor.
Barber turned himself in to the Palm Beach County jail Wednesday to face new charges of grand theft and insurance fraud.
According to an affidavit, Barber and his wife faked the 2008 accident report to try and get money from their insurance company to cover the cost of Def Leppard concert tickets they couldn’t use when a baby sitter canceled. Barber’s wife was not charged.
Barber was released on $6,000 bond. His attorney says there’s “an innocent explanation” to the allegations.
