Cigarette lighters that look like toys will be banned in Mississippi under a bill signed into law by Gov. Haley Barbour.
The law takes effect July 1 and prohibits the sale of novelty lighters.
Supporters of the bill say the devices endanger children’s safety.
The lighters can look like anything from toy frogs to tiny guitars. Many are sized to fit comfortably into toddlers’ hands.
