A former student who had sex with her Hillsborough county teacher is suing the school district for failing to protect her.
The lawsuit alleges the school didn’t properly investigate Jaymee Wallace before her hiring and didn’t immediately tell the girl’s parents when it discovered the relationship. Wallace taught the girl math and coached her in basketball.
The victim asked the court in 2007 not to put Wallace in jail, but the girl’s parents insisted on it. She was sentenced to three years in prison and three years probation after pleading guilty to lewd and lascivious battery and unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
The lawsuit filed last week says the girl suffered “embarrassment, mental anguish and physical illness.”
A school spokeswoman said the district doesn’t comment on pending litigation.
