Bayer CropScience has hired an emergency services director to coordinate emergency responses at a West Virginia chemical plant that was the scene of a fatal explosion last August.
Bayer said that Doug Jones comes to the Institute plant from the company’s plant in New Martinsville.
The announcement comes a day after the U.S. Chemical Safety Board said safety lapses contributed to the Aug. 28 explosion that killed two.
Bayer has also been criticized for failing to notify and then keep local emergency services officials informed of developments stemming from the explosion and fire.
