Officials fined a Hattiesburg, Mississippi construction company $12,700 for safety violations leading to a ditch collapse that killed a worker.
Clyde Payne of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in Jackson said Aug. 20 that L&A Contracting Co. paid the fine and agreed to make changes to prevent safety hazards.
One of the company’s workers, 38-year-old Tim Bright of Purvis, died March 22 of injuries he received in the March 13 ditch collapse in Lamar County.
Bright and several construction workers had been building a form to pour concrete when a ditch wall collapsed on him.
