Florida Jury Orders State Farm to Pay Accident Victim $277,000

June 5, 2008

Trial attorneys Carlos A. Bodden and Lawrence U.L. Chandler of the Boca Raton, Fla.-based law firm of Ellis, Ged & Bodden, P.A., recently convinced a Broward County jury that Jessica Bewsey deserved significantly more than the $5,000 initially offered by her insurance company after an automobile accident.

More than five years after the accident a civil jury ordered State Farm Insurance to provide more than $277,000 in compensation for the injuries and property damages Bewsey sustained in the incident.

During a week-long trial, details of the crash were presented to the jury. On July 15, 2002, Bewsey was traveling westbound on Hillsboro Boulevard in Deerfield Beach, Fla.. As she proceeded through the intersection of 45th Way, the driver of another vehicle made a left turn in front of her, causing the collision. Significant damage resulted from the impact; property damage to Bewsey’s vehicle totaled more than $12,000. Bewsey sustained severe injuries to her neck and lower back

“This verdict comes after years of litigation,” Bodden, the lead attorney on the case, said, “We feel the verdict was just in light of the evidence and the verdict is a testament to the fairness of the jury system.”
