The widow of a West Virginia University employee who died after falling off the football stadium’s roof is suing the university.
Bruce Mathieson died July 19, after he slipped and fell 32 feet off the Milan Puskar Stadium while trying to close a smoke vent.
His wife, Karla Mathieson, filed a wrongful death lawsuit May 15 in Monongalia County alleging her husband was required to work without fall protection gear and proper safety training for roof work. The lawsuit also says the unsafe working conditions violated state or federal safety statutes.
The suit, which asks for a jury trial, seeks unspecified damages.
Andrew Lohmann with WVU News and Information Services said that the university had no comment.
