West Virginia Man Sentenced in Insurance Fraud Case

April 14, 2008

West Virginia officials sentenced a Kanawha County man on April 10 for a misdemeanor count of insurance fraud committed in 2006, according to West Virginia Insurance Commissioner, Jane L. Cline

Meddie R. Dunlap, 56, of Alum Creek, W. Va., pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of one misdemeanor count of insurance fraud on Feb. 13. He was ordered to pay a $500 fine for submitting an insurance claim to Erie Insurance Co. for damages caused to a camper in September 2006 when those damages had previously been paid in June 2006 by another insurance carrier.

The court cited Dunlap’s lack of a criminal record, poor health and no pay-out on the fraudulent claim, as reasons for the reduced sentence.
