    > \”If I were an engineer, I would have put a wire around my neck with a transmitter and let the police listen in,\” Bailey said.< AND if I were to EVER purchase insurance again, I certainly wouldn\'t conceal it with a wire & transmitter! I will have a tape recorder for the dumb agents who lied, just to make a buck!!

This coming from what seems to be a person who had it all. 5 cars probably a pretty big house, a doctor. Sounds like you should have invested more wisely than in luxury items such as your 5 autos.

But, I bet if you were sued for malpractice you would be thanking your lucky stars that you still had your 5 cars and house when the Insurance companies defended you.

You can\’t have your cake and eat it too. I

Having lived in Mississippi for several decades, I know of nary a bridge or road that\’s named for a convicted felon. There\’s a big lake up Jackson way named for a guy who did our state more harm than a dozen Bilbos ever could\’ave. It\’s called BARNETT RESERVOIR. Ross Barnett was a wealthy ambulance-chasing lawyer turned politican, and an unindicted felon.

Your other comment is ludicrous. Ludicrous people are wont to offer ludicrous comments.

Oh, a wealthy NFL QB lives here. He has a couple of sibs who are convicted felons, but there\’re no roads or bridges named for them.

Perhaps you meant counties. We have Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Madison, Lincoln, Monroe, Jackson, Hancock, Lee, Warren, Desota, Bolivar, Lafayette, and dozens more.

Might you have knowledge of any of the above being convicted felons?

    TO CLARIFY:
(1)Home-we built ourselves. i.e, acted as our own contractors to save $40K. Did all interior work ourselves. Valued at the local moderate/medium level. 1,900 sq. feet, nothing spectacular inside or out. Just the basics.
    (2) Nope, not a doctor. Disabled nurse who has seen too many people die waiting for insurance to kick in. (Oh, and yes, I carry malpractice insurance, too, even though I can\’t work right now. But I really wouldn\’t have too much faith in them if I ever needed it, either.)
    (3) \”owned 5 Automobiles\”- year each manufactured: 1992, 1994, 1997, 2001, 2002. No new cars in our yard. That makes the ages in years-14, 12, 9, 5, and 4. No luxury vehicles by any stretch of the imagination. Just basic transportation. All needed by family to get to various jobs and colleges (which we also pay for ourselves. No free rides or \’cake\’ there, either!) Yeah, quite a collection of luxury cars, huh? And the replacement autos? Also used, over 3 years old, and includes 1 semi-klunker pick-up.
Thanks, I don\’t want cake, just what I used to have that was INSURED for replacement value.
Please do not put me in the whiner catagory. We have worked hard and done without for years just to scrape out an average lifestyle, not even get ahead of the game. We have also forgone many fun things we would like to have done with our kids or given to them over the years in order to make sure those outrageous insurance premiums were paid on time.
In the past 5 years we\’ve been in 2 auto accidents with careless teenagers who had fancy new cars and were on their state-of-the-art cell phones and lived in mini-mansions, but who had no insurance, even though state law requires it. We ended up paying deductables and surcharges on accidents we did not even cause! So again, I say, DO NOT assume we are trying to get something for nothing.
We are just sick of being taken advantage of and being treated like idiots.
And I think it is dead wrong for the insurance companies to shirk their responsibilities in this matter and expect the Federal Government (that\’s you and me, pal, and all our tax dollars) to pay for this.
Thank you, and have a nice day, Mr. Insurance Broker person. BTW, just how big is your house, auto/boat/motorized toy collection, portfolio….?
And have you ever lost everything you were told was covered by insurance only to be jacked around for SIX months? Do you still have a blue plastic FEMA roof on your house to keep the rain out? Ever have a surly adjuster tell you he wouldn\’t look at your \’junk\’, just take it to the road to be dumped?
Oh, the stories we have to tell….
I pray Dicky does gets his day in court.
Then the truth will really be known!
Have a nice life selling those lies and false promises ;)

Thank you for the compliment (?).
We actually did have flood insurance at one time due to poor street drainage. Then the city fixed the problem so that the rain water drained off very quickly and without problems.
It was my agent who told me to drop the flood insurance as I would never need it!
(We are 2 miles from the Gulf, 3 miles from the nearest river or creek, north of the 12\’ high railroad track beds which act as a sort of levee here, and 25 feet above sea level. Even FEMA said I didn\’t need flood insurance. So you see, I did do my homework.)
What you people fail to realize is that this storm was a freak of nature, a Catagory 4 Hurricane and a TIDAL WAVE of unbelievable magnatitude, NOT a flood. A flood rises and hangs around. This water was in and out of our home in 45 minutes. We were here to witness it all.
I wish you could all come down here and see for yourselves just how bad it still is,instead of forming opinions based on the slanted liberal garbage that is shown on TV. Then maybe you\’d understand why we feel this way.
When it all boils down, it was WIND (aka-a HURRICANE-for which I have coverage and a deductable) that caused the whole thing. And we have windsorm coverage. So where\’s the check?
And, yes, I CAN read. Unfortunatly, I cannot interpret the legalese jargon in an insurance policy. What I did get from reading the policy is what I said before…One section pretty much cancels the other out so basically we are paying for nothing!
BTW this is from your post: \”The vast majority of Insurance Agents in this country are small business owners that were just as effected by the storms as you were. That was quite a scathing diatribe that you published and it was not called for.\”
The proper word is AFFECTED, not EFFECTED. Look it up in the dictionary.
(And you really shouldn\’t end a sentence with a preposition :)
See, I really can read…and comprehend, too. Just not mumbo-jumbo BS insurance policies, obviously, according to you!
As for my diatribe, I am proud to be able to state my opinions and will continue to do so as long as needed.
God Bless America and the Constitution that allows me to speak frankly…and to write diatribes as I see fit.
Have a great day. I know I will!

Dear Mrs. Beck – You appear to be a bright individual and well articulated. I empathize with you in the catastrophic loss that the Gulf Coast sustained. Also with the other hurricanes that hit FL etc etc etc. But it appears that you cannot read. For if you read your policy, you would have noticed that Water Damage, including wind driven tidal surges, floods etc etc are not covered by your homeowners policy and would have questionned your agent who then would have placed flood insurance for you etc etc. The vast majority of Insurance Agents in this country are small business owners that were just as effected by the storms as you were. That was quite a scathing diatribe that you published and it was not called for.

Bless your cottonpickin\’ heart, Mrs. L.B

BTW, a local friend/State Farm agent said about the insurance business: \”Sure beats working.\”

Up the street from us lives a retired couple (from State Farm) in a $400K abode. Can\’t help but wonder how many of State Farm\’s premium-paying screwees live in such a manse? Average 3 br/2ba home here goes for about $120K, sometimes a little more; more often a lot less. You contact for 2 years and get a \”free\” receiver that\’s guaranteed for 90 whole days! Beyond that, get out the checkbook.

Anybody thinking about DirecTV is well-advised to read the fine print before signing anything and handing them money.
