Thieves have stolen the wheels from 22 new cars and trucks at a Southeast Texas dealership and left the vehicles on unsteady wooden blocks.
Texas City police are investigating the theft of 88 wheels, including tires, from DeMontrond Chevrolet.
The Galveston County Daily News reported Monday that some vehicles fell off the blocks and have frame damage. No damage estimate was immediately released.
Investigators believe the theft happened between Saturday night and Sunday morning when the dealership was closed. Sgt. David Fairchild says the crooks cut the locks off the gates, snipped wires to light poles and stole the wheels.
Police are checking security video and asking anyone who drove by and noticed suspicious activity to contact authorities.
A message left Monday with the dealership wasn’t immediately returned.
