Police say a construction worker was killed after he fell from the roof of a Nowata, Okla., hotel.
Nowata Police Chief Mike McElhaney says the 37-year-old man fell about 40 feet on Tuesday from the roof of The Savoy hotel. McElhaney says the man had been working alone at the time of the accident.
A passerby discovered the worker lying on a concrete sidewalk. The worker was taken to a Nowata hospital, where he was pronounced dead a few hours later.
The building’s owner, Jay Mitchell, declined to comment about the accident “out of respect to the family.” The worker’s name has not yet been released.
The Examiner-Enterprise reports that restorations were underway at the historic hotel, which was built in 1909.
