An Arkansas contractor hired by the City of Little Rock to demolish a condemned residence acknowledges he mistakenly tore down the wrong house.
City officials say Youngblood Demolition and Excavating was contracted to demolish the residence at 2804 Harrison Street, but a neighboring house at 2800 Harrison Street was torn down by mistake.
Grant Youngblood told KTHV-TV the two houses were side by side and he didn’t look closely enough to figure out which was which.
After realizing his mistake, Youngblood says he offered to clear the property for free or buy the home’s owner, Jessie Vernon, another house but both offers were refused. He accused Vernon of being more worried about himself than his neighbors.
Vernon says he planned to renovate the home and was complying with the city.
