$9.2M to Texas Teen Asked to Leave School Over Affair

A Dallas, Texas jury has awarded $9.2 million to a teen who was asked to leave a religious school after her sexual affair with a male teacher became public.

Jurors on Wednesday decided the Episcopal School of Dallas was grossly negligent.

School board president John Eagle says the civil verdict will be appealed.

Family attorney Charla Aldous says the community won’t tolerate a school treating a sexual abuse victim the way the girl was treated.

The girl was 16 and the teacher was 34 when police found the pair in a car in 2009. Her parents sued, saying the school didn’t do enough to protect the student.

The teacher, who resigned, faces charges of sexual assault of a child and improper relationship with a student.

The teen graduated from another school.
