Three men were injured when the metal balcony of a third-floor apartment gave way beneath them at a North Texas complex.
The incident happened early Saturday at The Grove, a recently opened Denton apartment complex marketed largely to students from nearby universities.
Denton police Capt. Lenn Carter said the three, all in their 20s, were attending a birthday party and were standing on the balcony smoking when it fell.
All three were airlifted to Harris Methodist Fort Worth hospital. A message left with a nursing supervisor at the hospital wasn’t returned Saturday, but a statement from the apartment complex management said none of the injuries were life-threatening.
Management spokeswoman Chasstity Brown told WFAA-TV of Dallas and Fort Worth that the balcony was meant to be decorative and not weight-bearing.
