The chief executive officer for the foundation that supports the work of an Arkansas hunger-relief organization has filed a lawsuit alleging he was suspended in retaliation for raising questions about internal policies.
In a lawsuit filed July 25 in Pulaski County Circuit Court, Domingo Barrios accused four Heifer International Foundation board members of trying to affect his contract when he reported alleged inappropriate conduct and unethical practices. He’s seeking $5 million in compensatory and punitive damages.
Heifer International works to end hunger and poverty by providing livestock and agricultural training. The foundation manages more than $75 million in charitable contributions.
Foundation spokesman Shannon Boshears says the organization hasn’t been served with the lawsuit and doesn’t comment on litigation.
Barrios’ attorney, Darrell F. Brown Jr., didn’t return messages seeking comment.
