A $10 million federal grant will be used for the Krueger Canyon Dam project to help prevent flooding in New Braunfels.
The funding for Comal County was announced late Tuesday by U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith.
The dam is to be built on Dry Comal Creek in an area west of New Braunfels.
The Comal River and the Guadalupe River, during two weeks in June, were closed to recreation after strong storms led to flooding that swamped some areas.
The New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung reports county commissioners are expected to seek bids for the project, which includes a redesigned dam proposal.
