The Louisiana State Police Region 2 Insurance Fraud Unit arrested a Rayne man for on charges of insurance fraud and theft.
According to the LSP, on Oct. 13, 2009, 32-year-old Demoine Declouette of Rayne, La., filed a claim with his insurance company after his vehicle, a 2008 Dodge Ram, caught fire. Declouette’s claim, which included the damage to his vehicle, was also for damage to custom after-market products he had installed on the vehicle.
Earlier this year, the Department of Insurance forwarded the case to the LSP Fraud Unit for investigation. Troopers were able to obtain evidence that indicated Declouette had altered documents sent to the insurance company for reimbursement. The troopers allege that Declouette fraudulently obtained more than $7,800.00.
Based on the evidence troopers obtained, they were able to secure a warrant for Declouette’s arrest for one count of automobile insurance fraud and one count of felony theft over $500.00.
Declouette turned himself in to troopers at the Acadia Parish Correctional Center. His bond was set at $5,000.00.
